Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist at NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has earned a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Pennsylvania. In the year 1967, Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976 she was a part of the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV in Washington DC (then WTOP). She was hired by NBC News Washington two years later as a general reporter. In 1981 she started reporting from the White House. In 1988 she was named chief congressional reporter. She became chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as the chief Foreign Affairs correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell was a guest as a guest on TV news show Meet the Press as a host and panelist. She served on a panel for the 1988 debates between George Bush (then president) and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan who was former chairman at Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell was awarded the prestigious Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and in 2004 she was awarded the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) honored Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her work in the defense of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. The time span covered both Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell covered a number of noteworthy news stories throughout the years, such as budget reform, tax reform, and an investigation into the Iran Contra saga. She travelled frequently with Reagan as well as Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
